Marc Ecko's Getting Up!

Getting Up! is an arcade platform game for mobile phones based
on the graffiti-themed console game from fashion designer Marc Ecko and Atari.
Players guide the young and acrobatic Trane as he struggles against the
oppresive government of New Radius. Spray cans bring color back to the
drab urban environments and are used to tag environments with signature "throw-ups."
I was involved with concept development in adapting the brand and gameplay
for the mobile phone. Many prototypes were developed to evaluate the
possibilities for bringing the colorful world of graffiti art to the
tiny screen, including an unused vector graphics renderer and many
motion experiments that culminated in the physics-based dynamics system
that guides the motion of Trane in the game world.
In addition to developing the game for J2ME mobile phones, I also
developed desktop production tools for designing the game's complex
environments. The Ecko level editor tool provided a graphic user interface
for placing objects in the environment and defining their behavior.
